Well, I've never tried listening to music whilst studying before, but today, I was just dying to hear that Nazgul album I got, so I just put on my headphones on low volume, opened up the books and started to study. To my very pleasant surprise, I never got distracted at all from my work. Usually when doing homework/studying, my mind drifts endlessly after an hour or so, but not now at all. It was odd, as I thought the music would provide a distraction, it actually did quite the opposite, it kept me focused on my work.

I guess I will be listening to much more music while studying now, because hey, if it helps, it helps, and it certainly is helping now. So yea, pretty cool huh? I thought it was a bad idea, but it turned out to help me, maybe you should try it as well ;]. though I probably would recommend it be something of the atmospheric sort, maybe Cannibal Corpse or Kronos aren't the best choices.

What would you consider to be the single greatest invention in the history of the world? Why?

I personally believe the printing press is the sole greatest invention. Without the printing press, it could take years for a few copies of the same book to be made, meaning that only the very rich could afford to read books, this of course didn't allow the lower classes to read, and so made them unable to obtain the same information that let's say the rich had.

Once this was invented, everybody had access to literature, and everybody could garner the same information , and so the intelligence level went up a great deal. Just think how primitive we would probably still be if not for this invention.
