Well, as I recently switched to being a full time Linux user, I finally decided to try out some windows only games using various emulation methods. While I do have a dual-boot with Vista on another partition, I hate having to reboot just to play some PC games.
Anyway, I decided why not try Deus Ex, it was one of my favorite (if not thee favorite) games of all time, and under my laptop (128 MB Video RAM, 2.2 GHZ AMD 64 processor) it ran extremely choppy with Windows Vista, I was of course, confused, because I had played this game very successfully on a much slower PC before, and no amount of driver updates, and custom configuration would allow it to work correctly.
With this in mind, I didn't think that emulation would fix anything, but, it sure did. Under Wine, Deus Ex runs surprisingly well, even better than on Windows XP or 2000. I would think that it's native platform would support it better than just an emulated environment, but I guess in my case that's just not true. Well, I suppose it is a good thing for me, since I loved that game, and still do, so now, its off to play some more Deus Ex!
Just some small notes for Windows/Mac users, Wine is an emulation program that lets you run (not always[usually] perfeclty) but still run, windows .EXE files. And for some readers that haven't yet played Deus Ex, it may be old, but damn, if you haven't played this amazing game, than you cannot righteously judge any other games.
